Hey Familia-ta!
July was full of celebration and commemoration! As you might have read in previous posts, July holds deep value to our culture. This month we celebrate when American forces landed on Guam to liberate the island that Japan seized During World War II.
Our fa’fa’någue, Rose and our beloved Fua traveled to Washington DC to partake in the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Guam. On July 16, 2019, they gathered to watch Congressman Michael F. Q. San Nicholas of Guam, Congressman Gregory “Kilili” Sablan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), yan Saina Frank Rabon as the guest of honor lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
In addition to the solemn ceremony, Rosemary & Fua joined Members of Guam Chamorro Dance Academy, Kutturan Chamoru Foundation, Uno Hit, Hale Para Agupa, and the Guam Society of America complete a three-day dance workshop to perform for the 2019 Congressional Reception.
As soon as Auntie Rose & Fua returned to the west coast, we were back at it in preparation for upcoming performances. We were deeply honored to be selected to perform for the San Diego Pan-Pacific Law Enforcement Association’s 2019 Summer Scholarship Awards Luau. This is an annual event to fundraise and present scholarship awards in honor of Fallen SDPD Officer Jonathan “JD” De Guzman. What an amazing opportunity to be in a room of those who celebrate Officer De Guzman’s life after death. Please click on the link above for more information.
Hope you all are staying cool & hydrated in this maipe climate!
