In Feb, Auntie Rose taught a dance work shop at Chula Vista High School for the Sweetwater School District.
In the mission to preserve and perpetuate the CHamoru culture, we had the opportunity to teach high school dance students. The outcome was incredible! They learned dance standards established by honorary Masters of CHamoru dance Frank Rabon and Eileen Meno. Students were able to share a short choreography that focused on life at sea to school staff and their respective colleagues. Last year these students performed a 5 minute CHamoru dance for their school homecoming. This is the 3rd year Auntie Rose was invited to teach for Sweetwater school district Dance Workshop. With much enthusiasm from the students and school staff we hope to continue teaching them CHamoru dance, because students learn history, our customs, and language as it relates to our ancestors way of life.
